Woman dies after jumping from stolen truck in northeast Las Vegas

A woman died after after jumping from a truck that was being stopped by police in the northeast valley Friday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

Metro received a call just after 7 a.m. about an employee following a reportedly stolen box-type work truck with three passengers inside on East Cheyenne Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard North, spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said.

About eight minutes later, police tried to stop the truck on East Cheyenne Avenue and North Lamont Street, near North Nellis Boulevard, Meltzer said. A minute later, as the truck was moving, the passengers jumped from the truck and tried to leave the scene.

The woman was struck and killed by the truck’s back tires, Meltzer said. The truck crashed into a wall. Shortly after, officers arrested Joshua Cyran, 31, on charges of grand larceny auto, driving under the influence resulting in death and hit and run resulting in death.

This is the 33rd traffic-related death Metro has investigated this year.

Traffic along Cheyenne Avenue was shut down from Marion Drive to North Nellis Boulevard, Meltzer said, but the street has reopened.

The woman will be identified by the Clark County coroner’s office. No other injuries were reported and the case is under investigation, she said.
