The owner of Thai Thai, Mr. Saensi, began his career in the U.S. as a kitchen helper. He since has opened three restaurants, won awards and is now taking traditional Thai food to the next level. Thai Thai’s menu starts with fresh rolls (three for $7.95) that have fried tofu, vegetables, glass noodles and homemade peanut sauce wrapped in rice paper. Coconut shrimp (10 for $9.95) are made with coconut tempura batter and served with a sweet sauce. Soups come in a cup ($5.95 to $7.95) or a bowl ($9.95 to $16.95). The tom kha gai ($6.95 for a cup, $11.95 for a bowl) is lemongrass soup with coconut milk, galangal root and chicken. Noodle soups are served with chicken for $8.95, with beef for $9.95 or with duck for $12.95. Most of the curry entrees are $12.95 (duck curry is $14.95) and come in an assortment of tastes, including pumpkin, red, green, yellow, panang, massaman and pineapple. Fried rice is $7.95 and comes in selections of house, egg or spicy basil, or for $14.95, with duck, crab and pineapple. The entrees are a perfect chance to try something new: Spicy deep-fried catfish is $14.95 and comes with special Thai chili paste. Spicy eggplant with basil is $10.95 and is stir-fried fresh eggplant with garlic, chili and choice of meat. The salmon green curry is $16.95. Dishes come with a sliding heat scale of one to five (two was pretty hot). Lunch specials are $6.95 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Pay in cash, and you’ll get 10 percent off your bill. Thai Thai is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
