Now you can find pumpkin-spice pizza in Las Vegas

Blame Starbucks.

Since the brewin’-barista behemoth’s Pumpkin Spice Latte went wide in 2004 — and quickly reached icon status — food alchemists have devised a range of pumpkin-spice products that test the limits of the imagination. It seemed to reach critical mass a few years ago; if this doesn’t finally ring the death knell, we don’t know what will.

It’s Pumpkin Spice Pizza from Villa Italian Kitchen, which has numerous locations in Southern Nevada. Unlike the earliest versions of Starbucks’ beloved PSL, it does indeed contain pumpkin — “pumpkin-pie filling loaded with spicy notes of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon,” spread over the crust and topped with mozzarella cheese. It sort of brings to mind butternut-squash ravioli, only, you know, not.

Add this to the list along with sparkling pumpkin-spice beverages, pumpkin spice milk chocolate truffles, Caribbean-style salsa, kombucha, kale chips, fettucine, peanut butter, cough drops, coconut milk, potato chips, tortilla chips and gum.

Vegetarian fare by the pool

Some of the most renowned sons of France will celebrate Vegetarian Awareness Month on Friday night at The Aquatic Club at the Palazzo. Those with local ties who will participate include former Las Vegas chefs and Joel Robuchon proteges Steve Benjamin and Claude Le Tohic, Eiffel Tower Restaurant’s Jean Joho and Venetian/Palazzo’s Olivier Dubreuil and Johann Springinsfeld. Tickets for the event, which will run from 7-10 p.m., are $75, or $135 per couple, at venetian.com or any Venetian or Palazzo box office. The event is open to those 21 and older.
