Salt ‘n Pepper specializes in Southern cuisine

Salt 'n Pepper, from Michelin-starred chef Alex Stratta, opened Nov. 14, serving — you guessed it — a Southern-inspired menu. Stratta won his stars for Alex at Wynn Las Vegas, which opened with the resort in 2005 and closed in 2011. Before Wynn, he worked in Monaco, New York and Phoenix, and came to Las Vegas in 1998 to open Renoir at The Mirage. Heading the kitchen at Salt 'n Pepper is Louis Kirkland, formerly of DB Brasserie, Marche Bacchus and Alex, who has an extensive background in Southern cuisine. Here's a sample of the menu:

Appetizers: Fried pickles, $4; deviled eggs with bacon, $6; fried tomatoes, $7; Salt 'n Pepper Chicken Wings with Barbecue Sauce, $8; Cajun-style fried shrimp, $9.

Soups and salads: Soup of the day, $5 for a cup, $7 for a bowl; Cajun shrimp gumbo, $5/$7; strawberry salad with goat cheese, $7; Salt 'n Pepper Salad With Fried Chicken, $10.

Bakery: Warm biscuits with honey butter, $3; cornbread, $3; hush puppies, $3.

Burgers and sandwiches: Egg salad sandwich, $8; classic American burger, $9; Good Ol' Fried Shrimp Po'Boy, $13; fried or grilled chicken sandwich, $10.

Entrees: Biscuits and gravy, $12; fried or blackened catfish, $14; chicken and shrimp jambalaya with andouille, $18; jumbo lump crabcake, $18; St. Louis-style barbecued pork ribs, $17; Salt 'n Pepper Fried Chicken & Sweet Potato Waffle, $19.
