This week’s 5 best bets for dining in Las Vegas

Family fun

For a last hurrah before the kids head back to school, consider celebrating National Banana Split Day on Thursday by sharing the Banana Veneziana at Trevi Italian Restaurant at the Forum Shops at Caesars. It’s a trio of gelato with sliced bananas drizzled with chocolate, caramel and strawberry sauces and dusted with cocoa powder, and it’s $12.

Something new

If there’s somebody you’re really trying to impress, you might be able to do it with the new $2,000 dinner package at Beauty & Essex at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. For your money, you get a seven-course multi-ethnic shared-plate dinner for four, oysters and a bottle of Dom Perignon — and oh, yeah, a pearl necklace. Call 702-737-0707.

Solo trip

Looking for a quick bargain meal? Farm 24-7 at the Aliante Casino in North Las Vegas is offering salmon croquettes with a cucumber dill salad for $13.99. Or, if your budget’s a little healthier, you can partake of a whole branzino with panzanella salad for $35 at the resort’s Bistro 57. Both are available through the end of the month.

Date night

Do you and your significant other want to try more of a locavore lifestyle? Nevada Berkshire pork — from the Alpine Ranch in Fallon — will be showcased in a dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Andiron Steak & Sea in Downtown Summerlin. With an entree of whole roasted rack with kale gremolata, braised shoulder and fig pork jus, it’ll also include such dishes as jalapeno-bacon churros, barbecue pork-belly steamed buns and a salad with shaved herb porchetta. It’s $59, with wine pairings $29; visit www.andironsteak.com.

For friends

If you and your friends have always talked about getting together to make wine, here’s a chance to learn more about it: Grape Expectations, 7360 Eastgate Road in Henderson, is hosting open houses from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, 2:30 to 3:30 and 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 to 3:30 and 4 to 5 p.m. Aug. 27. Call 702-806-3383 for details.
