White Castle opens in Vegas Jan. 27

Displaced Cravers, your long nightmare is nearly over.

As for the rest of you: You soon will be able to find out what all the hubbub is about, if you so desire.

The official opening of the long-awaited first White Castle in Las Vegas is set for 2 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 27.

It’s at the Best Western Plus Casino Royale on the Strip, and no, it won’t have a drive-through (although it will be open 24 hours).

What it will have, no doubt, are lines. When White Castle food trucks participated in the Las Vegas Foodie Fest during the past couple of years, Cravers waited up to four hours to get their fix of the diminutive, onion-laced steamed burgers, and since the announcement that White Castle would finally have a brick-and-mortar location here, the buzz has been constant.

And, in case you’re wondering: No, it’s not true that there were a couple of White Castles here in the ’80s. Efforts to get to the root of that rumor met only with company responses that that wasn’t the case. But an RJ reader recently reported that there were a couple of counterfeit locations, which were shut down by the company.

In these days of social media helping to fuel Castlemania, the fact that they ever opened is difficult to imagine.
