Your 5 best bets for dining in the week ahead

Date night

Get together with your sweetie — or sweeties; we're not judgy — and go downtown to try the new seasonal dishes at Carson Kitchen, in the John E. Carson building at 124 S. Sixth St. Selections include the Turducken Pot Pie, Ancient Grain Greek, with farro, quinoa and lemon yogurt, and the Hawaiian Sliders, with Spam, pineapple and seaweed slaw.

Solo trip

January's almost over, but there's still time to celebrate National Egg Month with a Deviled Scotch Egg at Ri Ra in The Shoppes at Mandalay Place. It's an egg wrapped in bangers — that would be sausage, to you and us — fried and served in creamy yolk mousse, and it's $12.

Something new

Herringbone, which has opened at Aria, is from former "Top Chef" finalist Brian Malarkey, who also has Searsucker at Caesars Palace. The new Herringbone, with locations also in La Jolla and Santa Monica, California, has a fish-meats-field, market-driven mission and is led by executive chef Geno Bernardo, late of Nove Italiano at the Palms. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the other days. Call 877-230-2742 or visit www.aria.com.

Family fun

City kids can always stand to learn a little more about the origins of the food they eat, so take yours to the Downtown Summerlin Farmers Market, which is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. While the kids are exploring, you can take in the free noon demonstration by chef Johnny Church of Artisanal Foods Cafe, on a classic French cassoulet.

For friends

Sharing is part of the fun being friends, so text a few of yours and go share a House Mezze platter at the new location of Khoury's Mediterranean Restaurant. Khoury's is now in Village Square, at 9340 W. Sahara Ave. Call 702-671-0005.
