Hyde nightclub throwing ’90s throwback party

Hyde Bellagio nightclub will host a ’90s throwback party Sunday starring “Saved by the Bell” actors Dustin “Screech” Diamond and Dennis “Mr. Belding” Haskins.

On the surface, that seems pretty normal as far as club stuff goes, however maybe you’ll remember Diamond is a fun-times wildcard.

After “Saved by the Bell,” he went on to star in some porn, referencing his “monster.” One porn reviewer by the name of Skippy Stalin said Diamond’s porn exhibited a “dementedly juvenile sexuality” comparable to Caligula.

Then Diamond wrote a tell-all book, claiming various cast members had affairs and listing other dirt. That book recently was turned into a Lifetime TV biopic.

Sadly, Diamond did not fulfill my request for an interview before Sunday’s 6 p.m. retro costume party at Hyde.

But I did manage to get the very polite and sweet Haskins on the phone.

“This is the first time Dustin and I will be appearing together since forever,” Haskins said.

“We tried to do a reunion a bunch of years ago,” but that reunion didn’t work out.

Haskins said he and Diamond got along very well during filming of “Saved by the Bell.”

“He called me about a month ago,” Haskins said. “We had a really good conversation. Without getting into the other stuff, I hope he’s in a better place now. I think he is. I’m looking forward to seeing him.”

Haskins said he gets it, when I mentioned how newsworthy Diamond’s antics have been. But he didn’t want to comment on the antics.

By the way, Haskins has been busy appearing at retro “Saved by the Bell” events at nightclubs in Atlantic City and New York, during the 25th anniversary of the show’s launch.

Haskins also appeared as a snake oil salesman in this year’s “A Million Ways to Die in the West,” and he’s done episodes of “Mad Men,” “New Girl” and “Robot Chicken.”

I asked him how people usually greet him at these “Mr. Belding” events.

“People come up and say, ‘Thanks for my childhood.’ ‘Thanks for helping raise me.’ They’re all so grateful,” Haskins said. “People just come up and smile at you, like you mean the world to them.”
