Lots of stuff in the works for Vegas indie folk group Dusty Sunshine

They're just like the Damn Yankees, but with a tad more estrogen. Dusty Sunshine is a Vegas indie folk supergroup of sorts, consisting of members of The Petals, The Clydesdale, Rubiks Hotel, Kid Meets Cougar and A Crowd of Small Adventures. Singer/guitarist Heidi Guinn and singer/keyboardist Chani Leavitt offer us a peek behind the curtain:

What does Dusty Sunshine sound like?

Leavitt: "Like Christmas morning on a warm summer's day. We pretty much only stick to one genre, so as not to confuse people, and that genre is "indie/blues/jazz/country/folk. Simple."

Guinn: "Dusty Sunshine sounds like swingin'-on-the-porch-swing, sippin'-on-lemonade kinda music. At least to me it does. There's a very sweet vibe, but no one really knows how complicated and layered each song really is."

Considering that you hail from other established bands you qualify as a supergroup, like the Traveling Wilburys, Contraband and Chickenfoot (a clear influence). Befitting your status, do you have some outrageous rider demands? Will you each be traveling in your own tour bus?

Leavitt: "As far as supergroups go, I like to think of us as more along the lines of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They just kind of represent the vibe we're going for. Courtney Carroll of Kid Meets Cougar is our drummer, so therein lies our hip-hop roots. As far as rider demands, I expect a plush, animal print (specifically of the leopard variety) throw pillow to accompany me where I go."

Guinn: "Personally, I love the way we all are with each other. There are no divas, except Jason (Aragon, bass). Ha! We're all pretty laid back and there are some real friendships within the band that go way back."

You have but one fella in the band. Any hazing rituals going on?

Leavitt: "We've put Jason in a dress more than once, but his overwhelming testosterone always forces it off of his body. Kind of like The Hulk. It's pretty cute."

Guinn: "I think it's only just begun with our plans for Jason. Seriously though, we are so stoked to have Jason with us."

Considering everyone's schedules, how active will the band be? And can we expect an album any time soon?

Leavitt: "We're all pretty busy, but we always find time to practice at least once a week and so far we haven't had to turn down or cancel any shows due to scheduling conflicts. As far as an album goes, we're hoping to start recording again and at least have an EP out sometime within the next year."

Guinn: "We have a ton of shows coming up. As far as recording, we love working with Brett Bolton. He's a genius, really, but he's crazy busy. We should have an album or at least an EP by next summer. Lots of good stuff coming up."
