Pauly D has been in Las Vegas for 3 years, and he loves it

Pauly D has been living in Las Vegas for three years, hiking at Red Rock and boating on Lake Mead, hanging with Chumlee (of "Palm Stars") and fellow Vegas-transplanted DJs Diplo and Skrillex.

I like talking with Pauly DelVecchio, because he's the friendliest and cheeriest reality star I've ever met. So since he will DJ this Sunday at Rehab pool party in the Hard Rock Hotel, I caught up with him on the phone.

He prefers Las Vegas over Los Angeles, not just because of our easier traffic and the Strip's club scene, but he likes the weather hot, and nearby environs natural.

"I fell in love with it once I moved here. I started to see the other things that are around besides the Strip, like Red Rock, and Valley of Fire."

Red Rock is near his house.

"There's so many trails. At the right time, it's beautiful. You take some pictures, go hiking, it's great exercise, and great scenery."

I told him I know people who got lost hiking locally.

"I don't go late at night, because I always get lost, and my GPS doesn't work," he said. "But luckily I haven't had to be helicoptered out of there. I saw that on the news. A lot of people, that happens to."

That's why I think someone needs to beef up GPS in hiking areas.

"Yeah, they really should," Pauly agreed.

Pauly D is living the single life in Vegas.

"I'm single and hoping Miss Right comes along," he said with a chuckle.

He tried Tinder, the dating/hookup/mutual attraction app, but his publicist told him, "Get off that site now," so he took his account down.

"I had it for a couple of days. It was interesting, to say the least. But nobody believed it was me. They thought it was a catchfish," he said, giving us both a laugh. (A catfish is a prankster troll who uses a fake social media personae to seductively trick targets.)

Isn't there some secret celebrity dating club Pauly D can belong to?

"I don't know if there's one specifically for that, but Instagram and Twitter are basically like a dating site. My Instagram direct message box is all chicks trying to hook up or meet up."

The bad thing about social media, of course, is it causes so much jealousy.

"If you are dating, they see your every single move," Pauly, 35, said. "You can see who's liking her photos, whose photos she's liking, or who's commenting on her photos. It's gotta be tough to be in a relationship now."

So what does a potential romantic interest have to do to get the D's attention at Rehab?

"They have to stand out. It's tough, because a lot of people are screaming my name," he said. "A lot of people go as early as possible to get that front spot to see if I'll notice them.

"But I don't know, throw something at me, maybe that will get my attention," he joked, meaning he wants something soft, like clothing items, tossed his way.

What's up next?

"I'm going to be back on television soon," he said, but he couldn't elaborate yet for business reasons, "hopefully by the end of the year."

It's not a "Jersey Shore" reunion.

"It's nothing with my old cast mates. I want it to be my own, it's sort of an ensemble."

I told Pauly he needs an Instagram dating show.

"That's a cool little concept," he said. "I'm gonna pitch it. All of a sudden, you're gonna start seeing commercials for it, and you're gonna be like, 'What the hell?'"

"You can have it for free," I said, gifting him my million-dollar idea.

"Thanks!" he said, so I'm hoping to see "The Instagram Hookup Show" just as you are, I imagine.
