81-year-old man killed in car crash identified

The 81-year-old man killed Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash near Rancho and Torrey Pines drives has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

Ralph D. Lemme was driving a 2004 Saturn south on Torrey Pines Drive about 3:45 p.m. and stopped for the stop sign at Rancho Drive. A 2008 Toyota RAV4 driven by Jennifer Hornyak, 39, of Las Vegas, was traveling north on Rancho Drive in the center travel lane, south of Torrey Pines Drive.

As the Toyota approached Torrey Pines, the Saturn entered the northbound travel lanes of Rancho Drive and was struck by the Toyota, according to police.

Lemme was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. His cause of death was blunt force trauma to the chest and possible choking on a partial dental plate, according to the coroner's office.

This was the 115th traffic-related fatality in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
