Ariz. pair becomes 5,000th same-sex couple to receive Clark County marriage license

An Arizona couple planning to marry in Las Vegas on New Year's Day probably didn't expect what transpired on New Year's Eve.

That's because Ronald Bauman and Dumitru Alexeev on Thursday became the 5,000th same sex couple to receive a marriage license from Clark County since it began issuing them in October 2014.

Plenty of perks came with the "milestone" figure, the county said.

The Phoenix couple was not only surprised with framed "CONGRATULATIONS 5000th" certificate from Clark County, but also an entire wedding package, which includes a wedding at a chapel, a night's stay in a hotel-casino suite, dinner, attraction tickets, and tuxedo rentals, among other goodies.

As of 3 p.m. Thursday, the marriage license bureau had issued 81,174 total licenses in 2015, a slight increase compared with 2014, the county said.
