A 4-year-old boy is expected to survive after Las Vegas police said he shot himself in a leg after finding a gun under a pillow in a northwest valley home.
Firefighters called police to the shooting in the 9100 block of Sparklewood Court, near the intersection of Fort Apache Road and West Gowan Road, about 7:20 p.m. Sunday, according to Metro.
The two-story house where the shooting was reported is in a cul-de-sac. Investigators took photos of an upstairs room Sunday night.
The boy was taken to University Medical Center with wounds that did not appear to be life-threatening, police said early Monday. Metro spokesman Larry Hadfield said police didn’t know which of the boy’s legs had been shot.
Metro’s abuse and neglect division investigated, but the department categorized the shooting as an accidental discharge, Hadfield said. No arrests have been made.
The Clark County Department of Family Services can not confirm or deny an investigation, spokesman Dan Kulin said Monday. Nevada law won’t allow him to talk about investigations, he said.
