Dining Pick of the Week: EAT

EAT

707 Carson Ave. at Seventh Street, downtown Las Vegas, 702-534-1515

Chef Natalie Young has become a popular downtown personality. One reason is her philosophy of “good food for good people made with love in downtown Las Vegas.” That good food starts with cinnamon biscuits with warm strawberry compote, steel-cut oatmeal with cinnamon-roasted apples and sugared pecans, shrimp and grits, chicken fried steak with two eggs and country pork gravy, tofu scramble, poached eggs with corned beef hash, truffled egg sandwich (scrambled eggs, wild mushrooms, feta cheese, bacon, chive potatoes) and Young’s famous pancakes with chicken-apple sausage and maple syrup. Featured sandwiches, served with homemade chips or potato salad, are roast beef with blue cheese, mushrooms and pickled red onions on ciabata, grilled cheese made with aged cheddar, BLT with avocado on toasted sourdough, veggie burger, shrimp po’ boy with spicy slaw, pickles and Sriracha mayo, and Reuben with homemade sauerkraut, corned beef, Swiss and Russian dressing on toasted rye. There are soups (black bean veggie chili, tomato, green chili chicken posole) and salads, including free range chicken Caesar, baby spinach and iceberg wedge with smoked bacon, cherry tomatoes, red onion and blue cheese dressing. Sandwiches start at $9. EAT is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
