Dining Pick of the Week: Montesano’s Eateria

9905 S. Eastern Ave. near Silverado

Ranch Boulevard, 702-870-3287

Steven and Sammy Montesano are celebrating 20 years of homemade Italian food at this family-owned restaurant. The impressive menu showcases traditional specialties, as well as modern adaptations such as the 6-pound Mountesano Lasagna Challenge. That’s right, 6 pounds of pasta. Eat the entire entree in 30 minutes, and the $40 meal is free, along with a special T-shirt and a picture on the Wall of Fame. Otherwise, enjoy pizzas and calzones, seafood (shrimp Diavolo, flounder Francese, lobster marinara), white or red clam sauce over pasta, meatloaf parmigiana, baked cavatelli, hot or sweet Italian sausage, chicken Montesano and Daddy’s Special, sautéed broccoli in butter, tossed with scrambled eggs in bowtie pasta. Popular heros are roast beef or ham with cheese, the Italian (cappicola, Genoa, mortadella and provolone), eggplant parmigiana, sausage, peppers and onions, and steak pizzaiola. Featured appetizers are breaded ravioli, fried calamari, bruschetta and baked clams. There are salads (Caprisi, seafood with sliced scungilli and calamari) and soups, such as pasta fagiolo, wedding and stracciatella (Italian egg drop). Don’t forget dessert: New York cheesecake, zeppole (fried dough with powdered sugar), spumoni and biscotti. Pasta dishes begin at $11.99, and heroes start at $6.99. Montesano’s is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday. — Jack Bulavsky
