Dining Pick of the Week: Top Notch Barbeque

PICK OF THE WEEK:
TOP NOTCH BARBEQUE

Beltway Plaza, 9310 S. Eastern Ave. at Serene Avenue,
702-883-1555

There are many types of barbecue. At Top Notch, chef/owner Jimmy Cole has created a paprika-based dry rub that gives his barbecued meats a special pungent flavor. It’s why the restaurant is top notch when it comes to barbecue. The half rack of ribs is cooked over an open flame after being covered and massaged with the special rub. Add a side of sweet potato casserole and a glass of iced tea and discover barbecue heaven. Other entrees are the quarter chicken, brisket, pulled pork or tender rib tips. The Four Meat Combo has hot links, pulled pork, chicken and ribs with garlic-butter Texas toast and two sides. Side choices are baked beans, baked macaroni and cheese, Cincinnati chili cheese fries, coleslaw, green beans, potato salad and Top Notch seasoned fries. Several sandwiches are chili cheese beef hot link, pulled pork topped with chili or coleslaw and a half-pound burger with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, pickle, cheese and barbecue sauce on a homemade bun. Make it a real Top Notch burger by adding pulled pork. And you’ll find the perfect dessert: sweet potato pie. Dinners start at $10.99, and sandwiches begin at $7.99. Top Notch Barbeque is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
