Chloé Powell, 22, has been named 2012 Miss Rodeo Helldorado Queen.

Powell presided over the Las Vegas Elks Helldorado Days May 17-20 in downtown Las Vegas.

A 2008 graduate of Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, Powell is studying communications at the College of Southern Nevada.

She has been riding western horses since age 5 and hopes to become a spokesperson for rodeo and the equine industry.

Macy Helm, a junior at Faith Lutheran Jr/Sr High School, was selected as the Nevada scholarship recipient for the People to People Ambassador Program.

Helm received $7,000 to travel and chose a two-week service mission trip to South Africa.

She plans to go on a safari, work with volunteers in disadvantaged communities and orphanages, and learn about the local government and history.

Jimmy Schrecengost, a sophomore honors student at Palo Verde High School, has been chosen by The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network as one of its 2012 Teen Advisory Group members.

Students were chosen from around the country to educate others about food allergies.

Schrecengost plans to write articles for the FAAN website and other publications, offering his insight and advice on what it's like living with food allergies.

He has raised and donated more than $2,000 in the last few years by participating in fund-raising walks.

He enjoys soccer, swimming, volunteering and going to the beach.

Schrecengost hopes to attend UNLV and become an allergist or immunologist. He believes having food allergies will make him a better doctor.

He is the son of Jim and Kathy Schrecengost of Las Vegas.

Jazzmin Joos, 16, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National Miss Nevada Pageant scheduled for July 7-8 in Las Vegas. She will participate in the junior teen division.

Joos volunteers as a sign language interpreter for special-needs children. She enjoys interpretive dance, theater, sports and interpreting for businesses and her church.

Christopher Rumsey has graduated from U.S. Army basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. A 2011 graduate of Desert Rose High School, Rumsey is the son of Jeri Rumsey of Las Vegas.

Torri Fenton has been awarded a V-500 scholarship to Valley City State University in Valley City, N.D., for the 2012-13 academic year.

Students are selected for this scholarship based on their high school grade-point average, ACT/SAT score and high school class rank.

Fenton is a senior at Palo Verde High School. She is the daughter of Frank and Tammy Lucius and Stanley Fenton, all of Las Vegas.

Brittany Tillett of Las Vegas graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Ore., on May 5.

Tillett received a Master of Education in curriculum and instruction.

Zachary Voelker has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. He earned a bachelor's degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz., in 2010.

Voelker is the son of Lisa Holmes of Las Vegas and Matthew Voelker of Modesto, Calif.

Tareyn Jackson has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2010 graduate of Cimarron-Memorial High School, Jackson is the son of Elizabeth Ritchey and Raymond Jackson, both of Las Vegas.

Edward Brandstadter has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. A 2010 graduate of Rancho High School, Brandstadter is the son of Edward and Evelyn Brandstadter of North Las Vegas.

Sara Bennett of Las Vegas presented a research project at Fort Lewis College's Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 19. Fort Lewis College is in Durango, Colo. The project was titled "Health Discrimination and Perception of Individuals with Medical and Mental Needs." Bennett's major is psychology.
