COFFEE WITH THE MAYOR SCHEDULED
THURSDAY MORNING AT RESTAURANT

The city of Las Vegas is providing residents with an opportunity to chat with Mayor Carolyn Goodman during Coffee with the Mayor, scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Dona Maria Tamales Mexican Restaurant, 910 Las Vegas Blvd. South. LAS VEGAS ROTARY CLUBS COLLECTING CLOTHING FOR CHILDREN IN NEED

Las Vegas-area Rotary clubs are asking for donations for the 16th annual Gift of the Holidays program, which provides winter clothing to children in need.

On Thursday, children identified by local charitable organizations will be driven to JCPenney stores, where each child will be paired with a Rotarian or a volunteer to shop for shoes, socks, underwear, pants, shirts and a jacket.

The day includes supervised sports activities with college athletes and cheerleaders and a pizza party.

In order to reach its goal, the Rotary Clubs need to collect more than $30,000. To make a donation, contact Jim Hunt at 498-7787 or Tom Krob at 498-2259.

REGISTRATION BEGINS
FOR CITIZENS ACADEMY OF PLANNING

Residents interested in the city of Las Vegas' second annual Citizens Academy of Planning can sign up through Dec. 15.

The free, 10-week education program, which is set to begin Jan. 25, 2012, provides attendees with workshops on planning, historic preservation and the permit process.

Classes are set to run from 6 to
7:30 p.m. Wednesdays through March 28, 2012, at the Development Services Center, 333 N. Rancho Drive.

TAX PREPARERS NEEDED FOR PROGRAM

More than 400 volunteers are needed from Jan. 15 through April 17, 2012, for the United Way of Southern Nevada's Earn It Keep It Save It collaborative, which provides free tax preparation for low- to moderate-income families and individuals. For more details, visit uwsn.org/eks or call 892-2300.
