Henderson PD to help register electronics via ReportIt service

Henderson police are doing their part to protect Black Friday customers’ purchases through Operation ReportIt, the department announced Tuesday.

Officers will be stationed outside the Best Buy at 611 Marks St., near U.S. Highway 95 and West Sunset Road, the day after Thanksgiving to help customers enter serial numbers for their purchases through an online property inventory service called ReportIt, Henderson police wrote in a release.

ReportIt lets people securely store serial numbers, item descriptions, pictures and scans of receipts so that they can be more easily identified if they are stolen or lost, the release said. Each ReportIt account can store up to 100 items and is only accessible by the account holder with a username and password.

When police recover an item registered with ReportIt, the owner will receive an email letting them know their property has been found.

The service is offered at no charge to residents by LeadsOnline, a technology service used by police to help identify stolen property, the release said.

Henderson police suggest shoppers register purchases such as televisions, computers, printers, video game consoles, stereos, power tools, jewelry, bicycles, cameras and any small electronic devices because those are the kinds of items burglars look for when they break into homes and vehicles.
