Judge revokes bail for man accused in deadly DUI crash
A judge revoked bail Monday for a man accused of killing two teenagers while he drove drunk for the second time in less than a year.
Kamesha J’Nyah Gilmore, 17, and Gabriell Rene Thomas, 18, both of Las Vegas, died Thursday after a crash near the intersection of Boulder Highway and Russell Road.
Police said Seong Mo Lee, 22, was driving south on Boulder Highway around 1:30 a.m. at an “extremely high rate of speed” in a 2014 Mercedes Benz E350 while the 2014 Nissan Versa the teens were in was making a U-turn.
The Mercedes hit the right side of the Versa, which rolled onto its roof, police said.
Lee was booked on one count of felony DUI resulting in death and is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.
In July, Lee was arrested by Nevada Highway Patrol on charges of DUI, drinking while driving, unlawful open container in a vehicle, unlawful use of a cell phone while driving and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to an arrest report.
“Looks like you made a bad choice, not only once but twice,” said Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Suzan Baucum.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said he wanted to find ways to deter repeat DUI offenses and prevent what he called “needless, senseless deaths.”
Lee’s blood alcohol level at the time of Thursday’s crash was not yet known, but Wolfson said “all signs” point to Lee being over the legal limit.
“This man should not be on the streets,” Wolfson said. “I’m bothered a lot by it. I’m angry. I’m upset. This should not have happened.”
