Lake Mead at Belmont in NLV closed for overnight gas leak repair

The intersection of Lake Mead Boulevard at Belmont Street in North Las Vegas is expected to stay closed for overnight for repairs to a nearby gas line that ruptured Friday morning, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

The North Las Vegas Fire Department responded to a gas line break near there about 11:20 a.m. Friday, near Bighorn Casino, which was evacuated for about two hours.

People were allowed back in about 1:30 p.m., according to Southwest Gas Corp. spokesman Stephen Miller.

Officials at Williams Elementary School, less than a mile away from Bighorn Casino, notified parents of students who lived near the leak and worked with them to find alternate routes home, Clark County School District spokeswoman Melinda Malone said.

Southwest Gas is tending to the repairs, but the cause of the gas leak is under investigation.
