Las Vegas Paiute Tribe awarded $559K diabetes grant

WASHINGTON — A $558,575 federal grant has been awarded to help the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe fight diabetes.

"Native American communities see higher rates of diabetes than many others across the country," said Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., who made the announcement Friday.

"This grant will help address this epidemic by providing vital services to the Las Vegas Paiute Tribe."

Titus said the grant was provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

She is a member of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus and co-sponsor of legislation to bolster public awareness about the disease.
