Man who shot at Las Vegas police refuses court appearance

A man accused of shooting at a Las Vegas police officer refused to appear in court for an initial hearing Tuesday.

Joshua Bacharach, 30, who is being held in an area of the Clark County Detention Center for high-risk prisoners, faces charges of attempted murder of a police officer with a deadly weapon, evading other felony charges, discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle and possessing a firearm as an ex-felon.

Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman ordered Bacharach brought to court Thursday “by any means necessary.”

Bacharach, on probation for attempted theft, was pulled over last week by Metro patrol officer Ryan McNabb for having his high-beams on near Lake Mead Boulevard and Walnut Road, according to police.

Bacharach fired once at McNabb before fleeing the scene in the car, police said.

Bacharach ran a stop sign and a traffic light as he continued to shoot at the officer in the patrol car. After crashing at Carey Avenue and Lamb Road, police said Bacharach left the vehicle and continued to shoot at McNabb.

McNabb stepped out of his patrol car and fired in Bacharach’s direction at least twice, before waiting for backup, police said.

Officers with a police dog found Bacharach in a backyard in the 4500 block of El Tovar Avenue, where the dog bit Bacharach and he was taken into custody.
