Metro investigates southeast valley child death

Homicide detectives were investigating the death of a child in the southeast valley on Friday night.

Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said officers were called to a home near the intersection of Harmon Avenue and Pecos Road just after 7 p.m.

A young child died and an adult woman was sent to the hospital, he said.

A Metro supervisor said the incident began when the child’s mother was walking down the street and was hit by a car.

The child, who’s sex and age have not been released, was found at home and sent to an area hospital, where the child later died. The child was not with the mother when the car struck her.

The mother was sent to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.

Detectives from Las Vegas police’s homicide unit and abuse and neglect unit responded to the scene.
