Mother of four shot in road-rage incident dies

A woman who was shot during what Las Vegas police described as a road-rage incident died after being taken off life support Saturday night, according to her family.

Tammy Meyers, 44, was taken off life support at 7:05 p.m., family members Matthew Meyers, Robert Meyers Jr. and Susan Ramos said during a press conference outside of University Medical Center. And then she died, they said.

Tammy Meyers suffered from at least one gunshot wound to the head, said her son, Matthew.

The family described Tammy Meyers as a loving stay-at-home mother of four who raised her children with care. A former nurse in California, she recently became a grandmother to the son of 20-year-old Matthew Meyers.

“She was a strong woman,” said a tearful Matthew Meyers, whose birthday was also on Thursday. “My mom did not deserve this.”

“I truly had a lot of love for my mom, she was always there for me,” Robert Meyers Jr. added.

Three men were in the vehicle that police said was involved in the shooting Thursday night, husband Robert Meyers Sr. told the Review-Journal on Friday.

He said the shooting occurred after his wife’s vehicle and a silver sedan were in a crash when she was driving home from Johnson Middle School, near the intersection of Alta and South Buffalo drives. She was teaching her daughter how to parallel park, Meyers said.

When his wife pulled over after the crash, there was a confrontation and at least one of the three people from the other car threatened her, Meyers said.

Sensing danger, Tammy Meyers got back into her vehicle and drove away from the scene, police said. The other vehicle followed Meyers and her daughter back to the family’s house, in the 7900 block of Mt. Shasta Circle.

About 11:20 p.m., when Tammy Meyers pulled over in front of the house, someone in the other vehicle fired shots, police said. The girl was not wounded.

One of the men was described by police as in his mid-20s, 6 feet tall and about 180 pounds. He has dirty blond hair that he wore in a spiked style. His eyes are blue or hazel.

The vehicle is described as a four-door gray or silver sedan with possible damage to the front driver’s side and possible gunshot damage, police said.

Las Vegas police on Saturday released a sketch of a man linked to the shooting.

“It was an outrageous, senseless act of violence,” Ramos said. “There was no excuse and no reason.”
