Motorcyclist thrown from bike, severly injured after south-central valley crash

A motorcyclist was severely injured Tuesday when he collided with a small sport utility vehicle and was thrown from his bike shortly after sunset in the south-central valley.

The crash happened at 7:24 p.m. in the intersection of Eastern and Rochelle avenues, just south of Flamingo Road, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Kendall Bell said. The motorcyclist was headed south on Eastern when he slammed into the SUV, which was headed west on Rochelle.

It was unclear as of Tuesday night which party was at fault.

The motorcyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Though his initial injuries were “severe,” Metro did not have an update on his condition as of 8:45 p.m.

Bell said more than one person was in the SUV, adding that their injuries were minor and they were “mostly in shock.”

As of 8:45 p.m., Eastern was still shut down between Flamingo and Harmon Avenue in both directions as investigators combed the scene.
