New Clark County coroner appointed

A new coroner has been appointed in the Clark County coroner’s office, the county announced in a release Friday evening.

John Fudenberg has been assistant coroner since July 2003. The Clark County Commission may vote on the appointment at its April 21 meeting.

“No one knows the operations of the Clark County Coroner’s Office better than John, having served as Assistant Coroner for nearly 12 years,” Clark County Manager Don Burnette wrote in the release.

The announcement of Fudenberg’s promotion follows Mike Murphy’s announcement March 31 that after 12 years as Clark County coroner he plans to retire and take a position with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Virginia.

Murphy’s last day as coroner is April 22. He expects to start his new job in July.

Fudenberg has 26 years of experience in serving the public, the release said. Before he became assistant coroner, Fudenberg served in Las Vegas as a deputy city marshal and later as a field services lieutenant for deputy city marshals, animal control, communications and parking enforcement.

“The opportunity to serve as the new Coroner and continue to work with our amazing staff is exciting and humbling,” Fudenberg said in the release.
