Police seek 2 women suspected in LV convenience store frauds

Police are asking for the public's help in finding two women who have targeted several Las Vegas convenience stores in a theft scheme, the department said Wednesday.

In the thefts, the first of which was Nov. 4 in the southwest valley, a man called convenience stores and identified himself as a corporate supervisor conducting and audit of store finances. He directed employees to retrieve cash from the safe and/or register and begin counting the money while on the phone, threatening the employees' jobs if they didn't comply, Metro wrote in a release Wednesday.

After the money was counted, the man told the employees a woman would come inside, take the money and conduct a separate audit outside the store, the release said.

Two women entered several different stores, including a Speedee Mart, a Terrible Herbst and a Smith's gas station, and took money from employees, never returning it, the release said. Each store's corporate office confirmed no audit was ever planned or completed. The most recent theft was Dec. 3 in the southeast valley.

Police are looking for two white women, both 20 to 30 years old, Metro wrote in the release.

Metro described one woman as 5 feet 6 inches to 6 feet tall with a heavy build and brown hair. The second woman is 5 feet to 5 feet 4 inches tall and has a thin build and "sandy brown or reddish hair," police said.

Anyone with information about the women's identities or whereabouts should call Metro's financial crimes section at 702-828-3285 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
