Police shoot, kill woman involved in stabbing in south Las Vegas

A woman who had stabbed another woman died in an officer-involved shooting early Wednesday morning, according to Las Vegas police.

Police received several calls about a woman wielding a knife at Manor Suites, 7230 South Las Vegas Boulevard, near Warm Springs Road, just after midnight.

Two officers responding to the scene found the woman on a second-floor balcony with a knife in her hand, Deputy Chief Kirk Primas said. She was slashing with the knife through the window screen of an apartment and refused officers’ commands. As the officers went upstairs, she entered the apartment from the window.

When police got to the apartment, they found the woman stabbing another woman. An officer shot the woman with the knife several times. That woman then locked herself in a bathroom, Primas said. The officers were able to get inside the bathroom and take her into custody.

She was taken to University Medical Center where she later died.

The woman who was stabbed suffered several superficial wounds and was treated at the scene. Three young children also were in the apartment at the time, and they were unharmed.

The relationship between the two women is unclear.

The dead woman will be identified by the Clark County Coroner’s office and the identity of the officers involved will be released by Las Vegas police after 48 hours per protocol, police said.

Manor Suites is a gated hotel and apartment complex where visitors stay for a night or months.
