Search continues for NLV man presumed drowned at Lake Mead

The search continued Monday for a man who jumped off a boat in Lake Mead on Sunday and didn’t resurface, according to Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials.

It’s an active search for the man, who is presumed dead, park service spokeswoman Chelsea Kennedy said about 2:30 p.m.

The 24-year-old North Las Vegas man was boating about a half-mile from the shore near Boulder Basin when he jumped into the water about 1:25 p.m. Sunday, park officials said.

He was wearing a life jacket that came off when he hit the water and did not come back up, witnesses told park officials.

National Park Service Rangers, the U.S Coast Guard and Nevada Department of Wildlife were searching the area, which is 80-to 160-feet deep, park officials said. They were using sonar and underwater cameras.
