Second arrest in northeast Las Vegas home invasion killing

Las Vegas police made a second arrest on Thursday in connection with a Monday homicide in the northeast valley.

Jaime Zuniga, 29, faces charges of murder, robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, battery, first-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder, according to an arrest report.

Police said Edward Michael Turner, 47, of Las Vegas, was beaten to death late Monday in the 6800 block of Fallona Avenue, near Hollywood and Lake Mead boulevards. Turner’s sister, who told police she is his caregiver, was also attacked and injured.

Jennifer Mustachia, 33, was arrested Tuesday and faces similar charges. A preliminary hearing is set for May 8.

Police said Mustachia owed Turner’s sister money, and that Mustachia and Zuniga were went to Turner’s home late Monday night to rob the siblings. A third man, who has been interviewed by police, drove them to the home but did not go inside.

Zuniga and Mustachia repeatedly punched and hit Turner in the the head with a large metal crow bar until he said “that’s enough, that’s enough” and eventually fell unconscious, police said, though Zuniga told police in an interview that he did not hit Turner with a crowbar and believed he was still alive when he left.

Zuniga told police he tried to get Mustachia to leave with him but she told him she would catch another ride.

The driver of the vehicle told police that Zuniga was acting paranoid when he returned to the car and had blood on his hands.

Mustachia told police Zuniga began licking the blood from his hands and said “I love doing this s—-,” the arrest report said.

Mustachia fell asleep at the scene and Turner’s sister escaped to a convenience store in the 6600 block of East Lake Mead about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, where she called police.

Officers found Turner at the home and was later pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The Clark County coroner’s office said he died of head injuries.

Zuniga is set to appear in court on Mar. 31.
