UNLV pre-med student crowned Miss El Tiempo 2018

Diana Cervantes Adams, a pre-med student at UNLV, was crowned Miss El Tiempo 2018 Saturday at downtown’s Lowden Theatre. Catherine Mosquera, a sophomore at Liberty High School, was named Miss Teen El Tiempo.

The event, attended by about 400 people, was the inaugural pageant for El Tiempo, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Spanish language publication.

The Miss El Tiempo and Miss Teen El Tiempo pageants are official preliminaries to the Miss Nevada USA pageant and the Miss Teen Nevada USA pageant, respectively. Both title holders will compete at the Miss Nevada pageant on Jan. 7 at South Point.

“For me, the most impressive part was watching a literal transformation of the 21 young women competing in the pageant,” said Robert Danielson, Miss El Tiempo pageant producer and director. “They grew emotionally and intellectually, and made life-long friends along the way. It will be a privilege to have these winners represent El Tiempo in the Miss Nevada USA competitions, as well as throughout the year at a variety of special events.”

First runner-up for Miss El Tiempo was Karen Ortega, a journalism/media studies student at UNLV, and second runner-up was Lili Equihua, a UNLV graduate.

In the Miss Teen El Tiempo competition, first runner-up was Crystal Effio,a junior at Bishop Gorman High School, and second runner-up was Maria Rebolledo, a junior at Nevada Virtual Academy.
