2017 Desert Pines Baseball Capsule

DESERT PINES

Head coach: Ricky Earp, third season

2016 record: 10-18 (4-10 Division I-A Sunrise, sixth)

Returning lettermen (starters): Four (four)

Top players: P/3B/C Juan Castaneda (Jr.), UTL Raymond Minero (So.), P/3B Steven Laureano (Jr.), CF/P Cesar Bailon (Jr.)

Outlook: The Jaguars are young, with only one senior on the team, but have plenty of optimism.

Castaneda (.467, 41 RBIs), Minero (.437), Laureano (.314) and Bailon are expected to be among the leaders on offense.

“We are seeking to build on the improvement from last season, finish in the upper half of our league and be a playoff team,” Earp said. “We have added some key pieces in the offseason which should give us the most balanced team we’ve had since I’ve been at the school.”
