RECRUITING: Canyon Springs’ Davis brothers select Eastern Washington

Gerad and Jordan Davis have played together on the Canyon Springs boys basketball team for less than a year.

If all goes according to plan, the brothers will play together for at least four years in college.

Gerad, a senior, and Jordan, a junior, made oral commitments to Eastern Washington on Saturday during an unofficial visit to the school in Cheney, Wash. The commitments are nonbinding, and Eastern Washington's coaches cannot comment on the brothers until they sign a letter of intent.

Gerad said he will sit out next season while attending classes and is expected to go on scholarship when Jordan arrives on campus in the fall of 2015.

"We like the school and the people," Gerad Davis said. "We went to the game (Saturday, a 77-72 comeback win over Montana State) and we like how the team played. The coaches talked to us about what's expected from us and talked to our mom, and we decided to commit."

Gerad Davis, a 6-foot-4-inch swingman, is a three-year starter for the sixth-ranked Pioneers (13-4, 2-0 Northeast League). He is averaging 16.6 points per game this season and is likely to see time at shooting guard and both forward positions for Eastern Washington.

Jordan Davis, a 6-1 guard, is averaging 16.4 points per game. He spent most of last season on the Pioneers' junior varsity team before being called up for the regular-season finale. Davis then starred in the postseason, including a 27-point showing in an 81-74 victory over Valley in the Sunrise final.

"Everybody here is so in love with the campus, and it's a college town," Jordan Davis said. "It made me feel at home. Me and my brother, we've always dreamed of going to college together."

Jordan Davis is projected to challenge for the starting point guard spot as a freshman in 2015 as the Eagles will lose Drew Brandon and Parker Kelly to graduation. Eastern Washington is 7-8 (2-2 Big Sky Conference) this season under third-year coach Jim Hayford.

The Davis brothers will join former Clark athlete Sir Washington, who is a freshman guard for Eastern Washington.

"They love the school, and when you love something, you might as well continue on with it," Canyon Springs coach Freddie Banks said. "We talked before they went on the trip that it wouldn't be a bad idea to be together when they go to college. I think they made a great decision. I'm very proud of these two young men."
