Tate Martell named Gatorade Nevada Player of Year

Bishop Gorman quarterback Tate Martell was named the Gatorade Nevada Football Player of the Year on Monday.

Martell guided the Gaels to an eighth consecutive state title, and the team ran its winning streak to 54 straight games.

Martell completed 136 of 215 passes for 2,362 yards and 41 touchdowns as a senior. He was only intercepted once.

He also rushed for 1,257 yards and 21 touchdowns, posting an average of 8.6 yards per carry.

Martell, who has orally committed to play at Ohio State, previously won the award in the 2014 season.

Martell’s teammate, running back Biaggio Ali Walsh, won the Gatorade award last season.
