Las Vegas police identify man who shot, injured officer

The man who shot and injured a Las Vegas police officer Thursday morning has been identified as Teag Fox, according to Metro.

Fox, 38, is housed at the Clark County Detention Center. He faces one count each of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, battery with use of a deadly weapon resulting in bodily harm on a police officer and discharging a firearm into occupied structure, the release said.

Officers were responding to a domestic disturbance call about 11:45 a.m. Thursday at 9145 Las Vegas Blvd. South when Metro says Teag approached them, making a comment.

"Before the officer was able to respond, the suspect fired numerous rounds at the officer, striking him in the upper body," a statement said.

The officer, described only as a 21-year veteran, was taken to University Medical Center, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

Fox managed to get past a perimeter that included help from Nevada Highway Patrol officers, SWAT, K-9 detectives, Clark County Fire and the FBI, Metro said. But he was arrested hours later in a Southern Highlands neighborhood without incident after police followed an in-house tip.

On Friday, there was little information on Fox available. A search through online Clark County court records shows that he's had only traffic citations.

Fox had agreed to interviews with media Friday, but later changed his mind, saying he wanted to speak to an attorney first, detention center officers said.

The officer wounded Thursday was the fifth Metro officer shot this year. None of them was killed or suffered life-threatening wounds.

On July 10, rookie officer Evan Hogue was grazed on the neck by a bullet fired by James Michael Todora, 54.

Todora was pulled over by an officer in the 5600 block of Sahara Avenue. Almost immediately, he exited his sport utility vehicle angrily, shouted at the officer and threatened to kill himself, Metro said.

Todora pulled a gun from a glove box in the SUV and a struggle ensued, Metro said. Todora is seen on the officer's body camera aiming the gun to his head and pulling the trigger, but the gun didn't fire.

Eventually a shot did ring out and struck Hogue, who had arrived as a backup, Metro said. Todora was shot dead.

On July 25, Bryan Keith Day, 36, shot an officer three times, including once underneath an eye, with a pellet gun, Metro said. Officers returned fire, fatally striking Day 13 times at an apartment complex in the 3000 block of Charleston Boulevard. Officers had been dispatched about a disturbance involving Day's neighbor.

On Sept. 4, officer Jeremy Robertson was shot in the leg with semiautomatic assault-style rifle during a call about armed intruders in the backyard of a house in the 6700 block of Oveja Circle.

Clemon Hudson, 20, and Steven Turner, 24, were later arrested and charged in that shooting.

Two days later, officer Thomas Clevenger was shot in the hand while he and his partner were inside a patrol vehicle at a red light at Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard.

The officer who wasn't hit arrested Franciso Urias-Quintana, 17, after a short foot chase, Metro said.
