Eight attorneys apply to fill vacant Clark County court seat

Eight attorneys have applied for the open Clark County court seat, according to the Nevada Comission on Judicial Selection.

The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection has received eight applications for consideration to fill the vacancy in the Eighth Judicial District Court, Department 29, resulting from the death of District Judge Susan W. Scann, public information officer Michael Sommermeyer said in a news release.

The applicants for the open seat are:

  • Karl Wesley Armstrong, 58, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Chris William Davis, 56, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Bruce L. Gale, 61, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Mark L. Gentile, 56, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • David M. Jones, 50, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Jacob A. Reynolds, 37, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Berna L. Rhodes-Ford, 45, Las Vegas, Attorney
  • Esther C. Rodriguez, 50, Las Vegas, Attorney

The appointment process was open to all Nevada attorneys with two years of residency and 10 years of legal experience. The commission will conduct background investiations, accept public comment and interview each of the applicants.

All of the applications’ information, with the exception of medical records and personal identification information, will be available within the next few days on the Supreme Court website.

The public can submit written comments on qualifications of the applicants by 5 p.m. Oct. 14 to Robin Sweet, secretary, Commission on Judicial Selection, Nevada Supreme Court , 201 S. Carson St., Suite 250, Carson City, NV, 89701.

Interviews to fill the vacant position are tentatively scheduled for the week of Oct. 24, at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas and will be open to the public.

The commission will nominate three finalists, whose names will then be submitted to Gov. Brian Sandoval.
