Lazy Dog Restaurant opens, welcoming people and pooches

California-based Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar opened its Downtown Summerlin doors to dogs and humans alike on Monday.

The Las Vegas location, 1725 Festival Plaza Drive, is the 16th in the chain, which started in 2003.

Dogs are welcome, so long as they do not beg, bark or bite, according to the restaurant’s dog menu.

Yes, they have a dog menu, says General Manager Phil McMaster. It features chicken, hamburger and brown rice. A bowl of water is complimentary.

“We welcome your pooch to our patio dining area … Dogs are not allowed inside our restaurants,” with the exception of service dogs, the company’s website says.

Designed to be reminiscent of a lodge in Jackson Hole, Wyo., the laid-back restaurant represents founder Chris Simms’ family vacations to the town, McMaster said.

“He loves Summerlin, he loves Las Vegas,” McMaster said of Simms’ decision to open the first location outside of California in the valley.

McMaster describes the reataurant as “a piece of the puzzle” of Downtown Summerlin, which now has 125 restaurants and retailers since opening in October 2014.
