Restaurants celebrate Mexican Independence Day

Several valley restaurants are planning special observances for Mexican Independence Day (drink specials also will abound). Among them:

All American Bar &Grill at the Rio, 3700 W. Flamingo Road, will pair three street tacos with a Corona or Corona Light for $15.

Border Grill at Mandalay Bay, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, plans a cocktail and appetizer reception followed by a multicourse dinner with Sauza Tequila pairings at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. It’s $75; call 702-632-7403.

Cabo Wabo Cantina at Planet Hollywood, 3667 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is offering a $39 three-course pre-fixe menu Friday through Tuesday: tortilla soup or Baja shrimp ceviche, tequila shrimp or chicken mole tamal, and salted caramel fried ice cream.

Chayo Mexican Kitchen + Tequila Bar at the Linq, 3435 Las Vegas Blvd. South, is offering a specialty menu from Friday through Tuesday including cochinita pibil tamales ($16); a mole sampler with mini short ribs with mole negro, duck carnitas with pasilla mole and chicken breast with red mole ($28); and bunuelo with mango ice cream ($8).

Garduno’s at Fiesta Rancho, 2900 N. Rancho Drive in North Las Vegas, is offering the Burrito Challenge for Charity at 6 p.m. Saturday. A 5-pound burrito is $25, but finish it in an hour or less and it’s free, plus Garduno’s will donate $25 to the Arturo Cambiero Senior Center. A portion of the event’s proceeds also will be donated to the center, and a traditional mariachi band will perform from 4 to 8 p.m.

Hussong’s Cantina at Mandalay Place, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will serve short rib enchiladas ($18.95) from Friday through Sept. 19.

Mercadito at Red Rock Resort, 11011 W. Charleston Blvd., will serve chiles en nogada (poblano pepper stuffed with ground pork, green apple, plantains and raisins, with a creamy walnut-cinnamon sauce) and huarache Mexicano (chile guajillo corn masa with black bean hash, cabbage, crema fresca and cotija cheese and either carne, pollo or pastor), Monday only.

The S7 Buffet at the Silver Sevens, 4100 Paradise Road, will have a specialty buffet on Tuesday, with such dishes as fried chimichangas and pork tamales and a live-action fajita station. It’s $13.99 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Salted Lime at Aliante Casino + Hotel, 7300 N. Aliante Parkway in North Las Vegas, is offering half-price chicken fajitas from Friday through Tuesday.

The Sports Bar at the Rio will serve $8 huevos rancheros, a $9 steak or chicken burrito and $5 Mexi-fries.

Tacos &Tequila at Luxor, 3900 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will serve chicken posole soup ($9), marinated filet mignon with shrimp, vegetables and cactus-chorizo salad ($23) and a chocolate ice cream churro tower from Friday through Tuesday. It’s also offering a $5 menu from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday through Tuesday, with such dishes as Fiesta Nachos, chicken quesadillas, flautas and guacamole.

Tequila Bar &Grill at, Bally’s, 3645 Las Vegas Blvd. South, will serve $2 tacos.
