'Summer' has Vegas connection

Movie: "(500) Days of Summer"

When: Opening Friday at local theaters

Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Zooey Deschanel

Director: Marc Webb

The story: A lovelorn Los Angeles guy falls for a captivating young woman who doesn't believe in love -- at least with him.

The buzz: Back in Las Vegas after a showcase at June's CineVegas film festival, director Webb's debut feature first charmed festival audiences at Utah's Sundance in January. But "Summer" also has an onscreen Vegas connection: co-star Matthew Gray Gubler, (TV's "Criminal Minds"), a Las Vegas native (and Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts graduate) who this Christmas returns as the voice of Simon in "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."
