Air Force Airman Shaun M. Miller graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. He is a 2013 graduate of Sunrise Mountain High School.

The Las Vegas Hospitality Association honored five Las Vegas hospitality leaders at the 2014 Distinction Awards scholarship fundraiser dinner Sept. 23: the late Jackie Gaughan and family received the Legacy Award; MGM Resorts International received Business of the Year; Danielle Babilino, senior vice president of sales at Wynn Las Vegas and Encore, received the Industry Leader Award; Alan Waxler, president and CEO of AWG Destination Services LLC, received the Spirit Award; and Ericka Aviles, business marketing manager of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, received the Rising Star award.

Audrey Smith of Las Vegas was named Ms. Senior Nevada in August. At the state competition at the South Point, she sang, played the piano and tap danced to “Almost Like Being in Love.” She is a music teacher at Lummis Elementary School.

Mary Tatlock of North Las Vegas, a freshman at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., was among 48 students who received the college’s highest scholarship, the Trustee’s scholarship, for the 2014-15 academic year.

Gregory Ambrose of Henderson, a freshman of Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., was among 92 students who received the college’s highest scholarship — the President’s scholarship — for the 2014-15 academic year.

Air Force Airman Pedr E. Torres graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Torres is the son of Pedro L. Torres and Isabel Vazquez of Las Vegas. He is a 2013 graduate of Sierra Vista High School.

Army and Navy Academy recognizes those students who have achieved cadet status after completion of Plebe Training. Plebe is the official term for a first-year cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point, the United States Naval Academy and the Army and Navy Academy. Drayson Little and Johnlord Sy, both of Las Vegas, were recognized.

Members of the Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tenn., class of 2018 received their white coats on Sept. 27, which marks the students’ entrance into medical school. Those receiving their white coats included Jared Kuntz of Henderson and Alexey Minevskiy and Adam D. Musgrave, both of Las Vegas.

Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., named the following students to its spring 2014 dean’s list: Samuel Alex, Andrew Badillo, Heather Bosheth, Shelby Hart, Taylor Hart and Gavin Sweeney, all of Henderson; Darian Johnson, Lucas Lee, Tessa McQuillan and Chrissy Shattuck, all of Las Vegas; and Asia Armstrong of North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas Mayor Pro Tempore Anita Wood has been elected to serve as president of the Nevada League of Cities for 2015.

The 10th annual Las Vegas Ride for Kids, a motorcycle road ride benefiting the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, raised $65,663 Sept. 28. More than 300 people participated in the police-escorted ride from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to Town Square Las Vegas.

The Gay & Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada announced that Michael G. Dimengo has taken the position of chief executive officer. Dimengo brings more than 37 years of senior management and consulting experience, with an emphasis in the nonprofit and entrepreneurial sectors.

Jeremiah Curry of Henderson, a graduate of Green Valley High School, was selected to join the Chancellor’s Leadership Corps at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. The competitive scholarship awards up to $8,000 per year, up to $32,000 for four years, if renewal requirements are met.

Army Pvt. Cora A. Myers graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. Myers is the daughter of Randy Myers of Las Vegas and is a 2014 graduate of Cowan Sunset Southeast High School.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Ricardo J. Martin graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio. Martin is the son of Maria E. Hoernke of Las Vegas.
