Louie Anderson, Jimmy Kimmel among Emmy nominees with Las Vegas ties

He won two Daytime Emmys for voicing the animated “Life with Louie” more than two decades ago. Now, Louie Anderson has been nominated for his first Primetime Emmy for playing Zach Galifianakis’ mother on the FX comedy “Baskets.”

“I’m so humbled by the nomination,” the longtime Las Vegan said in a statement to the Review-Journal. “Thanks to Team Louie, my mom, Ora Zella, and my family … and all my fans.”

Anderson portrays the matronly Christine Baskets, who’s not at all impressed with her son Chip (Galifianakis) and his dreams of being a French clown in Bakersfield, California.

For Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, Anderson is competing against Andre Braugher (“Brooklyn Nine-Nine”), Keegan-Michael Key (“Key & Peele”), Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”), Tituss Burgess (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”), Tony Hale (“Veep”) and Matt Walsh (“Veep”).

Clark High School graduate Jimmy Kimmel will host the 68th Emmy Awards on Sept. 18.

His “Jimmy Kimmel Live” was nominated for Outstanding Variety Talk Series alongside “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” “Real Time With Bill Maher” and “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

And “American Ninja Warrior,” the obstacle course competition that has culminated on the Strip since 2012, was nominated for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program.
