Fire causes $107K damage to Henderson home, displaces 4

A cigarette discarded near the garage of a Henderson home caused a fire and displaced four adults Thursday.

The garage of the single-family home in the 1000 block of Via Calderia Place, near Lake Mead Parkway and Mohawk Drive, caught fire about 5:30 p.m., according to the Henderson Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the garage and the residents were able to evacuate safely once the smoke detectors started blaring, department spokeswoman Kathleen Richards said.

The displaced adults and their two dogs are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental and the estimated loss is $107,000 for the structure, contents and one vehicle, Richards said.

No one was injured in the fire.
