Inmate stabbed to death in fight at Indian Springs prison

A 26-year-old inmate at High Desert State Prison was stabbed to death Monday afternoon, the Nevada Department of Corrections said.

Andrew Thurgood, who was serving time at the Indian Springs prison for attempted possession of a stolen vehicle, was stabbed at about 1:45 p.m. during a fight with two other inmates, the corrections department wrote in a Monday night release.

He had been incarcerated since Sept. 24, the release said.

Correctional officers and medical staff found Thurgood in the prison's dayroom and attempted life-saving measures. He was taken to the infirmary, where he died.

Investigators have identified two suspects, the release said. More information will be released as it becomes available, it noted.
