Man killed in southeast valley shooting

A man is dead after a shooting Tuesday afternoon in a southeast valley neighborhood, Las Vegas police said.

Officers were called just after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to the 2900 block of Kennewick Drive, near the intersection of East Vegas Valley Drive and South Mojave Road, where a caller said a man had been shot and was lying in front of a house, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release.

The man died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Metro Lt. Dan McGrath told reporters on the scene that the man who was shot had a loud argument with a man and a woman in front of the house. The pair got into their vehicle and one of them shot the man once in his upper torso.

"We're trying to piece it all together," McGrath said. "It seems like they knew each other."

Neighbors witnessed the argument, and after the shooting, they saw a silver pickup truck speeding away from the scene, McGrath said.

"We're trying to figure out who all these people are. We only have first names," he said.

The man who was shot was described as a white man in his early 40s. The Clark County coroner's office will release his identity after his family has been notified.

The investigation continues, but police seemed to believe Tuesday afternoon that the dispute was over money.
