Saturday event at Wetlands Park to benefit people, butterflies

The Clark County Wetlands Park and the Nature Conservancy will host an event Saturday designed to get people outside and provide monarch butterflies with something good to eat during their long migration.

The “Connect With Nature” festivities at the Wetlands Park begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, when pre-registered volunteers will plant native trees and bushes as well as milkweed, the monarch’s favorite food.

At noon, the planting will give way to an outdoor celebration that includes music, hiking and a visit from Mojave Max.

The event is free and open to people of all ages.

The Clark County Wetlands Park is at 7050 Wetlands Park Lane, near the eastern end of Tropicana Avenue. The 2,900-acre preserve along the Las Vegas Wash is home to 300 plant and animal species, as well as a nature center, picnic areas and a network of hiking and biking paths.
