Nev. lawmaker rescues teen ‘being stupid’ during flood

LAS VEGAS — A Nevada state senator says he rescued a 14-year-old boy who was stranded in a swollen flood channel during a Las Vegas rainstorm.

Sen. Mark Manendo says he was photographing a wash behind Dog Fanciers Park Wednesday evening when he spotted the boy standing on a rock in the middle of rushing waters.

The Democratic lawmaker says he asked the boy what he was doing, and the teen replied that he was being stupid.

Manendo says he grabbed a rope, threw it to the teen, and guided him to safety with help from another Good Samaritan. He later posted a picture of himself and the boy on Facebook.

Rainstorms in the Las Vegas area often lead to deadly flash floods. They killed two people in the region last year.
