Las Vegas meeting on Ash Springs postponed
The Bureau of Land Management has postponed a public meeting slated for Wednesday in Las Vegas on plans to reopen Ash Springs in Lincoln County.
The bureau said it was putting off the meeting until it finds an alternate venue. The open house was set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the bureau's Southern Nevada District Office, 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive.
A second public open house set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday will run as scheduled in the multipurpose room at Pahranagat Valley High School, 151 S. Main St. in Alamo.
The BLM is seeking public input as it develops a management plan for Ash Springs, a popular swimming hole along U.S. Highway 93 100 miles north of Las Vegas. The bureau closed Ash Springs on July 6, 2013, after a ranger noticed that a brick wall supporting one side of the pool looked ready to collapse.
Residents of the surrounding area have floated their own plan to develop and reopen the site. The BLM planning process is expected to last into next year.
The deadline for input on the development of the management plan is March 1.
