Social media stars find parties, trouble and mysterious hotel room sludge in Las Vegas

Social media influencers stayed in Las Vegas in droves for the holiday weekend, and their reviews were mixed.

“There’s been 2 fights outside my room and the shower erupts with black sewage,” YouTube star Callux tweeted Monday night, adding a disgusting photo of his shower drain, for the eyes of his 420,000 followers.

MGM officials responded to him through Twitter, apologizing and saying they weren’t happy about the problem, had notified hotel operations, and were looking into it, prompting a “Cool will email” response from the YouTuber.

He tagged his hotel, @MGMGrand, and it’s possible he’ll further bag on the resort, since “Lux,” a British/Los Angeles influencer, sways 1.7 million subscribers to his YouTube prank videos bearing such titles as “Drunk Say Anything Challenge” and “Horrible Urban Dictionary Words.”

Adding insult to injury, Callux tweeted he went to the Palms and was wowed by a much better “crazy hotel room” where two other social media influencers were staying.

Those two influencers at the Palms had a more gleaming Vegas vacation. One was Arden Rose (461,000 Twitter followers; 1.4 million YouTube subscribers). Here’s sort of what her media from Saturday through Tuesday looked like:

“Thanks to @taolasvegas for giving us the best birthday dinner EVER … Coming out of the hot tub last night I ATE IT and now I’m walking with a limp because my ass is BROKEN. I think we did Vegas right … Morning everyone I feel like death.”

Her Palms suite mate Andrea Russett (Twitter: 2.4 million; Instagram: 3.5 million) simply Instagrammed seductive swimwear photos from the Palms and Snapchatted back-seat karaoke — which is more like what hotels desire from comped influencers.

Meanwhile, Brit influencer Jack Maynard (374,000 YouTube subscribers; 134,000 Twitter followers) used social media to press a DJ to hurry up and start his music at the Light nightclub in Mandalay Bay:

“Hi @MetroBoomin im in Vegas really looking forward to hearing your set … So can you start now? Thanks”

And SSSniperWolf has already posted several Vegas holiday videos for 3 million subscribers, criticizing her meals here and touring a penthouse.

What have we learned from this?

Social media influencers are not as forgiving as are traditional travel writers taking free junkets.

HIGH COST OF MEETING CELEBS: $250-$5,000

NBA Summer League will spin off ancillary celebrity events again.
