2. Helldorado Days: Events are scheduled May 12-15 at locations downtown and the Helldorado festival grounds, with rodeo events, a carnival, vendors and exhibitors at Las Vegas Village, 3901 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Highlights include the Las Vegas Helldorado Parade, scheduled for 10 a.m. May 14 northbound on Fourth Street from Gass to Ogden avenues, and the Barnyard in the Boneyard, scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. May 14 at the Neon Museum, 770 Las Vegas Blvd. North. The entry fee is $25 in advance and $35 on the day of contest. The Hell of a Pub Crawl is set for 8 p.m. May 12. Leave from the Whiskerino Contest to the El Cortez’s Jackie Gaughan Plaza to pick up a souvenir mug. Food and a performance by the Rowdy McCarran Band is planned. The cost is $25 per person.

Mid-Century Magic — Morelli House Tours: The free tours, part of the statewide celebration of the 50th anniversary of the National Preservation Act, are scheduled starting at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. May 14 at the Morelli House, 861 E. Bridger Ave. The iconic mid-century modern home was built in 1959 for Antonio Morelli, orchestra conductor and musical director for the Sands Hotel and the Casino Copa Showroom during the Rat Pack era. Safe Summer Nights: The free events are planned through May 26 and include music, children’s games, face painting and free refreshments while supplies last, and community health and resource fairs. The Metropolitan Police Department Mounted Police Unit will visit each event with its horses, and Three Square food bank will deliver 300 5-pound bags of fresh produce for distribution to residents at each event. ArtLIVE!: The charity event, combining fashion and art in a showcase to benefit the Las Vegas Fashion Council and the 18b Arts District, is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. May 12 at The Smith Center for the Performing Arts, 361 Symphony Park Ave. The artist-designed mannequins are part of what organizers call their Madison mannequins, or when they gather them together in one place, the Madison Army. Volunteer cleanup: The Outside Las Vegas Foundation, in partnership with the city of Las Vegas, city of North Las Vegas and the Cultural Corridor, invites community members to lend a helping hand during the Cultural Corridor and Historic Downtown cleanup, planned from 8 a.m. to 11a.m. May 14. Located north of the heart of Fremont Street, the historic area is home to the old Mormon Fort (originally established in 1854), the Neon Museum, the Cashman Center and other businesses and venues. Volunteers will assist with trash pickup, light landscaping, cleaning Heritage Park and painting. The effort will begin at Heritage Park and extend from the Neon Museum to Lake Mead Boulevard. Volunteers will receive a free pass to the Neon Museum, a Las Vegas 51s baseball cap and other items for their help. Food Revolution Day: Create A Change Now and partner The Reset Project have announced their second joint health education event celebrating Food Revolution Day with a 555 dinner at VegeNation, 616 Carson Ave., No. 120, from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. May 15. A preceding reception is set for 5:30 p.m. Food Revolution Day is a global campaign that sets out to put practical food education back on school curriculums. The dinner is to highlight five Las Vegas chefs, creating a five course-dinner from five local farms while educating individuals on nutritional values and the importance of healthy eating. Both courses are to circle around the park decorated with the combat boots and photos memorializing fallen service members. Proceeds will benefit military families. Red Rock marathon: Triple Dare Running Co. plans its spring race, the Flight of Fire Trail Half Marathon & 10K, for May 14 at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, 1000 Scenic Loop Drive. Starting at the Visitor Center, the course will travel clockwise to the Moenkopi Loop, the Grand Circle Loop, and the White Rock-Willow Springs Trail, then to the White Rock dirt road, back to the Grand Circle Loop, on to the Calico Hills Trail, and finally back to the Moenkopi Loop, finishing at the center. This course is a technical trail race, and trail shoes with gaiters are recommended. The 10K follows the same course, ending at the White Rock aid station. Search and Rescue: The Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue plans to host its annual 5K run and 1-mile fun walk followed by a tethered balloon flight, helicopter demonstration and interaction with search and rescue vehicles at 8 a.m. May 14 at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 6375 state Route 159, about 10 miles west of the 215 Beltway. Fit Lives Here Event Series: The 8K Trail Mix and 5K Road Race are scheduled to start at 8 a.m. May 14 at Skye Canyon Park, 10111 W. Skye Canyon Park Drive. Registration ranges from $25 to $50 and includes a T-shirt and a goodie bag. A 1-mile family fun run or walk is also planned. The 5K and 1-mile races are set to travel through Skye Canyon’s neighborhoods, while the 8K will start on the road and venture onto nearby trails. “Illustrating the Written Word — A Collaborative Intersection of Art and Language”: The exhibit is planned from 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays through June 11 at the Artspace Gallery, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. The College of Southern Nevada Department of Fine Arts is set to host an exhibition of drawings and poetry created through a collaborative effort between students and faculty of CSN’s Department of Fine Arts and Department of English.
